Apple Introduces New Device “iProd”

August 6th, 2009 by jaykishor and tagged , , , , , , ,

Don’t be confused. It is not iPod or new version of iPhone. You should know that it is another type of new devices which is introduced by Apple. Recently, it has been seen in Apple firmware. arstechnica.com writes about the device,

“An updated USBConfiguration.plist in the most recent version of iPhone OS 3.1 beta offers compelling evidence that Apple has continued development on an unknown device, referred to as “iProd,” that was first discovered in March. A developer alerted us to the appearance of the new device description for iProd 1, 1 inside the configuration file. As most Apple devices are assigned the “1,1″ designation in the first revision, this leads us to believe that there is indeed an unknown product inside of Apple under active development running the iPhone OS.”

It means it is a device which had been seen in OS .1 beta. At first, the device had been seen in May.

Further the above mentioned site writes about it,

“The iProd1,1 device has been assigned a new productID of 4762 (versus 4757 of iProd0,1) and assigned a different ConfigurationDescriptor of “standardMuxPTPEthernet.” iPhone models also have this designation, and the additional interface identified in the plist for this configuration is “AppleUSBEthernet.” The consensus here seems to be that the new device may have gained high-speed networking capabilities—though the iPhone uses the interface to tether to a laptop to share its 3G connection.”

So, it is clear that the device would be able to use through iPhone interface to the laptop to share 3G connection.

What is the truth about the device, we don’t because rumors are always around the Apple’s products. It is new version of iPod or iPhone, we don’t know. We can say that it is a rumor dance or romance.

Some rumor about iProd declares that it can be something like China-specific iPhone or Apple is trying to craft China Unicom. All the iPhone SDK updates tell that the iProd 0, 1 a device file. 0, 1 is a device file which typically stands for prototypes in Apple’s product.

We can go through this theory also – iPhone OS 3.1 has configuration of iProd 1, 1. Yes, it is really mysterious device which is closer to being released.

We had still needed more facts for iProd device to know about it more. It is still like a mystery in the lists of Apple’s products. iProd still creates more confusion like iTablet.
